Another Day, Another Hypocrisy from New York’s Slippery Senator Kirsten "Jell-O"-Brand

For Immediate Release: August 7, 2018

New York, New York - U.S. Senate candidate Chele Farley (R, C, Reform) today called out the latest hypocrisy from New York’s slippery Senator Kirsten "Jell-O"-Brand, a.k.a. Gillibrand, for touting her plan to wipe out payday lenders, while at the same time cashing their campaign contributions.

In April, Gillibrand announced her plan to allow the United States Postal Service to branch out and offer basic financial services, including savings accounts and loans, to low-income communities. Yet she has also accepted campaign contributions from a prominent political donor, Ahmad "Andy" Khawaja, who provides a conduit to assist high-risk transactions by pornographers, offshore gambling operations and, yes, payday-loan debt collectors.

“Kirsten Gillibrand is like Jell-O: no matter the issue, she is slippery and wiggly, shifting to fit the audience. Her supposed crusade to ‘wipe out’ payday lending hasn’t stopped her from accepting thousands in campaign donations from the industry,” said Farley.

Khawaja, who reportedly raised over $4 million for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, is also a donor to Gillibrand. According to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Gillibrand has accepted over $10,000 from Khawaja and related parties.

The wisdom of Gillibrand’s plan is dubious and completely ignores the reality of online banking. There are over 36,000 post-office branches around the country and forcing them into banking activities would not address the issues of payday lenders, but would succeed in further bankrupting the already financially troubled U.S. Postal Service.

Concluded Farley, “Whether it’s accepting millions from Wall Street and proposing a financial services tax or decrying sexual harassment at the same time her largest donor is Harvey Weinstein’s protector and enabler, Boies Schiller, Kirsten Gillibrand’s 'ethics' are as malleable as Jell-O.”
