New York, New York - U.S. Senate candidate Chele Farley (R, C, Reform) today blasted incumbent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for failing to co-sponsor first-of-its-kind bipartisan legislation to punish terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah who use innocent civilians as human shields when carrying out their attacks. The failure is just the latest flip-flop in Gillibrand’s ugly turn against Israel.
The bipartisan bill, STOP Using Human Shields Act (S.3257), was introduced in the Senate on July 24 by Sens. Cruz (R-TX) and Donnelly (D-IN) and has 12 cosponsors at this writing. Under the legislation, those who use human shields could be blocked from any property they may have in America, denied entry to the U.S. and have any current visa revoked. The measure also encourages the U.S. to secure support for a U.N. Security Council resolution that condemns the use of human shields and would impose multilateral sanctions against terrorist organizations for their use.
If passed, the legislation would for the first time authorize the President to impose sanctions on persons involved with the use of human shields.
“This is plain common sense, the use of human shields by Hamas and Hezbollah is barbaric and uncivilized and marks yet the latest outrageous flip-flop in Kirsten Gillibrand’s march to the radical left,” said Farley.
In 2014, before Gillibrand was running for President, she actually cosponsored a resolution with Senators Cruz and Manchin to condemn the use of civilians as human shields. Gillibrand said at the time: “The international community must stand up against this terrorist organization that is putting the people it claims to defend in harm’s way and support Israel’s right to defend its citizens.”
“No matter the year or what ‘lens’ you look at it through, no matter whether you are running for President or not, the use of human shields is vile and must be stopped,” said Farley.
Today’s revelation is just the latest anti-Israel action from Kirsten Gillibrand, who supported the Iran Nuclear Deal, opposed the Taylor Force Act, removed her name from anti-BDS legislation and has joined the hard left of the Democratic Party in supporting anti-Semite Linda Sarsour.
Concluded Farley, “Gillibrand’s actions are part of a dangerous and emerging pattern where the far left of the Democratic Party, led by Kirsten Gillibrand, is becoming highly critical of Israel almost as a default position. I will always stand with our ally Israel and against those who threaten her existence.”
