On the day Harvey Weinstein was finally arrested, U.S. Senate candidate Chele Farley blasted her opponent Kirsten Gillibrand for accepting over $780,000 in blood money from Weinstein’s enabler, the law firm of Boies Schiller Flexner, where Gillibrand was once a partner. Farley called on Gillibrand to donate these tainted funds to a charity that aids victims of sexual assault.
Weinstein turned himself in this morning to authorities and was arrested on charges of raping one woman and sexually assaulting a second. His one time lawyer, Boies Schiller, is among those who enabled Weinstein by assisting his efforts to silence his victims and conceal his abusive behavior.
“Kirsten Gillibrand is first class hypocrite who accepts blood money from Weinstein’s enabler, Boies Schiller, while traipsing around the country and the late night circuit parroting support for stronger sexual harassment laws,” said Farley.
“One of Kirsten Gillibrand’s single largest supporters, Boies Schiller was paid handsomely, possibly millions, to silence and humiliate Harvey’s victims, and turns around and donates that money to buy influence with politicians,” said Farley.
She added, “Instead of bankrolling her delusional 2020 presidential ambitions with blood money, Gillibrand should donate those funds to a charity that aids victims of sexual harassment.”
Top Gillibrand supporter and her one time law partner, Boies Schiller, personally signed a contract with a private investigation organization, Black Cube, to develop “intelligence which will help the client’s efforts to completely stop the publication of a new negative article in a leading NY Newspaper.” The contract also authorized investigators to look for material to discredit “harmful negative information” about Weinstein. Boies subsequently admitted that he, “knew enough in 2015 that I believe I should have been on notice of a problem and done something about it.”
“Boies Schiller and Kirsten Gillibrand are part and parcel of the Democratic establishment that looked the other way as their pal Weinstein terrorized young actresses,” said Farley.
In an October 2017 interview with USA Today, Gillibrand called for holding accountable not only the predators like Weinstein “but the institutions that are protecting them.”
Concluded Farley, “Boies Schiller’s actions are the very definition of a powerful institution, unethically protecting and enabling a sexual predator, will Kirsten Gillibrand have the guts to hold them accountable?”
