For Immediate Release: October 26, 2018
New York, New York – US Senate candidate Chele Farley (R, C, Reform) issued the following statement in reaction to the arrest of the mail-bomber suspect.
“The news that authorities have apprehended a suspect in the recent mail bombings is a tremendous relief to all New Yorkers and all Americans. Our brave and talented law enforcement community has once again proven itself to be unparalleled. While we will learn more about the suspect, his background, mental health and motivations, these events have been a stark reminder of the need for many to cool their heated rhetoric. But no speech, no Tweet, no Facebook post - no matter how provocative, is an excuse for violence. Individuals must be held responsible for their actions.
Elections are by their very nature contentious, but we are political opponents, not enemies. Yesterday, Senator Gillibrand and I participated in a tough, but civil and substantive debate about our very different visions for the future of New York. It is my hope that others will follow our example. After Election Day, it is my sincere hope that elected officials from both parties will set aside the angry rhetoric, end the resistance and get back to working for the American people.”
