New York, New York -- US Senate candidate Chele Farley (R, C, Reform) called on Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to finally be honest with New York voters about her 2020 Presidential ambitions. Gillibrand has a long history of saying one thing then changing her mind and doing another.
Gillibrand went from having an A to an F rating with the NRA. She went from being a strong supporter of border security and even voted to provide local law enforcement more money to fight illegal immigration. Now she’s an open-borders advocate who became the first Senator to call for abolishing ICE. She used to advocate for a balanced budget and spending controls. Today, she is a leading advocate for a single-payer healthcare system that will more than double the federal budget and destroy the private health-insurance market.
“Senator Gillibrand has lied time and time again to New York voters throughout her 12 years in Washington. She thinks she can say what she wants here in New York and do what she wants in Washington and across the country,” said Farley. “Her latest doublespeak is to spend as little time as possible in New York telling voters she isn’t running for President. Her actions speak louder than her words. Gillibrand is spending more time traveling the country and a staggering amount of advertising dollars outside New York to build her 2020 Presidential campaign.”
According to her public schedule and media reports, Gillibrand has spent just one day in the first two weeks of October in New York. She toured a facility, spoke to an organization and held a taxpayer-funded town-hall-style meeting on October 4. During the same period, she hit the Presidential campaign trail with stops in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. While Gillibrand has amassed a massive war chest and spent more than $6 million on advertising, New Yorkers haven’t been much of the target.
A news reports out this morning reports that of the $1.5 million Gillibrand has spent on digital advertising with Facebook, a mere 9 percent was used to target New York voters.
“Gillibrand is working hard and doing everything she can to position herself to run for President in 2020. Everything except being honest with New York voters. She has every right to run for President in 2020, but she has an obligation to tell the voters of New York her plans while she asks them for another six-year term,” said Farley. “I support term limits because politicians like Kirsten Gillibrand should focus on the job voters elected them to do. Unlike my opponent, I will go to Washington and fight for New York.”
