Gillibrand Once Again Lying to New Yorkers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  April 1, 2018

New York, New York - Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, an outspoken leader of “the resistance” and national campaign activist, can’t get her story straight when it comes to whether she is running for president in 2020. In an interview with the Watertown Daily Times, Gillibrand ruled out a 2020 run, but yesterday she told her Hollywood donors in Variety that she is focused on 2018, leaving the door open to a potential 2020 bid.

“Kirsten Gillibrand needs to stop lying to New Yorkers to advance her political career and come clean about her plans to run for president,” said Chele Farley, U.S. Senate candidate for New York.

She added, “Voters deserve to know whether Kirsten Gillibrand is working for Democrat activists in Iowa and New Hampshire or hard-working families in Watertown, Binghamton and Staten Island.”

In a May 2, 2017 interview (video) during a stop at Fort Drum, Gillibrand told the local  Watertown newspaper:

“I’m dedicated to serving our state as our Senator, and I’m running for re-election so I can continue to be their Senator.”
When pressed on her 2020 presidential plans, she continued:
“I’m focused entirely on running for Senate, so yes, I’m ruling it out,” she said.

When asked the same question by the Hollywood tabloid in Variety on April 10, 2018, Gillibrand offered a different response:
Q: Will you run for president in 2020?
A: “I’m entirely focused on 2018, because I am up for re-election and I would like to continue to be the U.S. Senator from New York.”

Concluded Farley, “Another day, another flip-flop from Kirsten Gillibrand. It is what we have come to expect from a career politician who says whatever she has to in order to advance her own interests. New Yorkers deserve someone who will put New York first. Kirsten Gillibrand isn’t working for New York.”
