STATEMENT: Chele Farley Slams Gillibrand's Financial Services Tax

"Kirsten Gillibrand wants to raise your taxes so she can send more of New York taxpayers' money to other states. We already lose $48 billion in overpayments to Washington every year thanks to her do-nothing record. Now Senator Gillibrand has decided to target a key industry of New York in order to sell herself to the far left wing of the Democratic party. She doesn't care about the job-killing consequences to our state's economy because she's focused on running for President instead of representing everyday New Yorkers.

"New York already has the highest tax burden in America, only made worse by the cap on state and local tax deductions in the federal tax bill. Now Gillibrand wants to punish New Yorkers again and blow a hole in our state's budget.

"Maybe she's forgotten about her past public support for Wall Street deregulation, or that the securities industry accounted for 18 percent of state tax revenues in fiscal year 2017, or that Alliance Bernstein, one of Wall Street’s oldest firms, recently announced plans to relocate its headquarters, including over 1,000 employees, from New York to Nashville, Tennessee, in an effort to cut costs. Companies leave, jobs are lost, revenues dwindle and middle-class taxpayers are inevitably left with the tab. A new financial services tax will put New York's taxpayers last. I'm running for Senate to build a strong New York economy and put New York First Again."
